Guidance Counselor - Callicoon, NY


Supervises and manages the Career Counseling Center and staff.


  • Collaborates with Senior Residential Counselor and Residential Counselor to provide comprehensive student case management services.

  • Routinely evaluates and documents student performance using case management system.

  • Active member on ensuring case management and career management teams are effective systems to ensure student success in the program.

  • Ensures students are actively engaged in social development, leadership and independent living skills and other related after hours programming that promotes achievement and success.

  • Oversees and manages student progress evaluations, weekly student career success ratings and assessment/evaluation conferences.

  • Interviews, recommends for hire, disciplines, recommends for termination and evaluates the performance of the employees in the Career Counseling Department. Fills staff vacancies in a timely manner.

  • Effectively motivates, empowers and requires staff to perform his/her job responsibilities. Employs sound time-management and delegation skills. Holds staff accountable for producing quality work, develops staff for career progression and disciplines staff that fail to meet goals.

  • Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures no manipulation of student data.

  • Ensures Center meets or exceeds DOL/Company performance goals.

  • Positively contributes to the Center's culture by treating students with care and respect, assisting students achieve personal and career goals and ensuring students feel safe and welcomed while attending the Job Corps program.

  • Provides required and supplemental training for new and current employees.

  • Motivates and manages staff to work effectively, creates a supportive work environment, recognizes staff accomplishments and proactively addresses staff performance concerns.

  • Develops Center-beneficial linkages within the community for education, employment, Career Technical Training and WBL support. Promotes a positive image of the Center and Job Corps.

  • Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.

  • Provides high-quality supervision and management for the student population. Takes swift and appropriate action and positively influences student behavior. Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior.

  • Bachelor?s degree from an accredited school (including at least 15 semester hours in Social Services-related instruction) required.

  • A minimum of two years? experience in counseling or related field.

  • Prefer previous Job Corps or related program experience.

  • Must possess a valid Driver?s License and meet company insurability requirements.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
